PUBG Studios is bringing its upcoming extraction shooter, PUBG: Black Budget, to Steam for a closed alpha test across two December weekends, challenging heavyweights like Arc Raiders and Escape from Tarkov.
PUBG Studios is officially stepping into the crowded extraction shooter arena. According to a report by Eurogamer, the developer has announced a closed alpha test for its upcoming project, PUBG: Black Budget, arriving on Steam next month. The game sets itself apart by leaning heavily into exploration and discovery rather than pure survival and combat, all while taking place on a mysterious island trapped in a time loop by supernatural forces.
First spotted in a Krafton financial report back in 2023, the project promises an ever changing PvPvE open world paired with high stakes gunplay. While an official release date remains TBA, this upcoming hands on test suggests that development is finally ramping up toward a full launch. PUBG Studios is entering a busy market, however, as Black Budget will have to contend with heavy hitters like Arc Raiders and Escape from Tarkov, alongside recent franchise heavyweights from Battlefield and Call of Duty.
For players eager to see how the iconic battle royale DNA translates to an extraction format, the alpha will run across two weekend sessions in December. The first session runs from December 12th to the 14th, followed by the second from December 19th to the 21st, with access available for players across North America, Europe, and Asia. Interested players can sign up directly through the game's Steam page to secure a spot in the upcoming test.
