PUBG: Blindspot is shutting down permanently on March 30 after just 53 days in early access on Steam, according to a report by Polygon.
The live service space continues to move at a relentless pace, and another experimental project is bowing out before it can find its footing. As reported by Polygon, Krafton and PUBG Corporation developer ARC Team are pulling the plug on PUBG: Blindspot. The top-down tactical shooter will officially shut down forever on Monday, March 30, at 5 a.m. EDT, giving the game a remarkably brief lifespan of just 53 days in early access on Steam.
Launched on February 5, Blindspot attempted to pivot the massive battle royale franchise into a more intimate, five-on-five tactical format with destructible environments, drawing loose comparisons to titles like Rainbow Six Siege. Unfortunately, the game struggled to capture an audience in a crowded multiplayer market. According to SteamDB tracking, the spin-off peaked at just over 3,200 concurrent players at launch and saw those numbers dwindle to a 24-hour peak of under 200 players prior to the shutdown announcement.
Developer Sequoia Yang noted in a Steam update that while the team explored various paths to improve the experience, they ultimately could not sustainably deliver the quality they had planned. For players curious to see how the experiment turned out, the game is currently free to download on Steam for one final weekend before it disappears completely. The core development team plans to take the lessons learned from this rapid release and apply them to future projects.
