PS Plus Purge: Jedi, Witchers, and UFC Fighters Headed for the Exit (Next August!)

A bunch of games, including some big hitters like Jedi: Survivor and Witcher 3, are leaving PS Plus in August 2025, prompting gamers to either finish them quickly or buy them outright. Subscriptions are still popular despite the risk of losing access to games.

Right, settle in, mates. It seems the PlayStation Plus overlords are planning a bit of a clear-out next August (2025, mark your calendars!). We're talking about a whole heap of games vanishing from the Extra tier, which means if you haven't finished your Witcher 3 playthrough yet… well, chop chop!

According to Game Rant, who broke the news, a hefty 14 titles are getting the boot on August 19th, 2025. I reckon that's enough to make any completionist sweat a little. The list includes some seriously big names, the kind that make you wonder what you've been doing with your life (besides, y'know, playing games).

We're talking *Star Wars Jedi: Survivor* (may the force be quicksaving!), *The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt* (Geralt's got to pay the bills somehow!), *EA Sports UFC 5* (virtual face-punching at its finest!), and *Top Spin 2K25*. That's just the tip of the iceberg, mind you. There's also a pile of *Sword Art Online* games bidding farewell, along with *Wild Hearts, RIDE 5, Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, Vacation Simulator*, and the ever-charming *Bugsnax*. Bugsnax leaving? Blasphemy!

Now, the good news is, if you're currently knee-deep in any of these virtual worlds, you can still buy the game to keep your progress. Unless you're one of those…*deletionists* (shudders). In that case, well, start again from scratch, I guess?

And it's not all doom and gloom. Sony's been busy adding new titles to the service, like *Cyberpunk 2077*, *Planet Zoo*, *Risk of Rain 2*, *New World: Aeternum*, and *Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden*. Premium subscribers even get some retro goodness with *Twisted Metal 3* and *Twisted Metal 4*. So, swings and roundabouts, eh?

But this whole thing does raise a question: Is our reliance on subscription services ultimately a good thing? We're essentially renting games, not owning them. (Imagine renting a spellbook; ridiculous!). Yes, it provides access to a massive library, but at what cost? At least we have cloud saves to keep a hold of our accomplishments when titles like Jedi: Survivor yeet themselves from our libraries. Food for thought, I reckon. Maybe we'll see the pendulum swing back towards digital ownership someday?

Subscription numbers are apparently still sky-high according to reports, with video game subscriptions in the US hitting $600 million in May 2025. So clearly people are still happy to pay to access a bunch of games that they may or may not ever play.

Regardless, it looks like August 2025 is going to be a busy month for PS Plus subscribers. Time to cram in those last few hours before your games disappear into the digital ether! Get your playtime in, before you can't anymore!
