PS Plus is on a Day-One Spree, and Frankly, It's About Time!

PS Plus Extra is having a bit of a day-one game party in 2025, and after years of 'meh,' it's a welcome surprise, let's hope they keep the train a-rollin'.
Right, so it seems Sony's finally figured out that throwing us a bone every now and then keeps us happy little gamers. According to *Game Rant*, PS Plus Extra is on a bit of a roll with day-one releases, and fair dinkum, let's hope it keeps up. It's like they're taking a leaf out of Xbox Game Pass's book, except, you know, with more PlayStation-y goodness.
Now, I'm not saying it's always been sunshine and rainbows (remember that time they promised us cloud saves and then the servers spontaneously combusted? Good times...). But 2025 has been surprisingly decent. We're talking proper, honest-to-goodness day-one drops on PS Plus Extra.
First up, back in February, we got *Lost Records: Bloom & Rage - Tape 1*. Then, April gave us *Blue Prince* (Tape 2 of Lost Records also dropped in April). *Blue Prince* apparently got the critics all hot and bothered. Who am I to disagree? Then, in June, Remedy Entertainment's *FBC: Firebreak* landed. Now, *Firebreak* didn't exactly set the world alight, but hey, a free day-one game is a free day-one game. I'm not complaining.
But wait, there's more! July saw the arrival of *Abiotic Factor*, which *Game Rant* describes as a "popular co-op survival game with serious Half-Life vibes." Half-Life vibes, you say? I'm in! Anything that evokes the glory days of crowbars and headcrabs gets a thumbs-up from this wizard.
And the streak isn't over yet, mate. August 19th is bringing us *Sword of the Sea*, a game from the art director behind *Journey*, *Abzu*, and *The Pathless*. If those names don't ring a bell, think pretty visuals and emotionally resonant experiences. This could be a good'un.
So, to recap, here's the hit list of day-one PS Plus Extra games in 2025 so far:
* *Lost Records: Bloom & Rage* (Tape 1 - February/Tape 2 - April) * *Blue Prince* - April * *FBC: Firebreak* - June * *Abiotic Factor* - July * *Sword of the Sea* - August
Will the streak continue? Who bloody knows! September could be a bonanza of day-one releases, or it could be back to the usual mix of indie darlings and slightly-past-their-prime AAA titles. Either way, I'm cautiously optimistic. I mean, Sony owes us after that cloud save fiasco, right? (I'm still bitter, can you tell?).
So, there you have it. PS Plus Extra is having a moment. Let's just hope it's not a fleeting one. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a date with a crowbar and a whole lot of headcrabs.
