Professor Willow Finally Enters the Anime as Pokémon Go Celebrates Its First Major Crossover

After ten years on the market, Pokémon Go is hosting its first-ever crossover with the Pokémon anime series, bringing themed rewards and goggled starters to the mobile hit.

A decade after redefining mobile gaming and turning real-world neighborhoods into digital hunting grounds, Pokémon Go is finally crossing over with the main Pokémon anime. According to Polygon, The Pokémon Company announced that the billion-dollar mobile hit is linking up with Pokémon Horizons, bringing familiar faces and themed rewards to both players and viewers. The update centers on Professor Willow stepping into the animated spotlight, alongside a special trailer showing a player catching the distinctive goggled Charmander featured in the show.

Running from September 16 to September 22, the in-game event packs plenty of incentive for active players. You can catch the goggled Charmander that keeps its signature accessory through its full evolution line, while Pikachu wearing Cap's hat takes over One-Star Raids. Event bonuses include doubled catch candy on the Go Pass, extended lure durations, and extra stardust. Raids will also feature event-exclusive powerhouse evolutions like Charizard, Meowscarada, Skeledirge, and Quaquaval.

While Pokémon Go remains a massive fixture on mobile app stores, its underlying ecosystem has shifted significantly behind the scenes following ownership changes under Scopely. Even so, the game continues to bridge the gap between digital economies and real-world communities. This long-overdue anime crossover proves that Niantic's creation is still a vital pillar of the broader franchise, giving cross-platform fans another reason to check their map before heading outside.
