Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Narrows Down to a Q4 Release Window After a Five-Year Saga

Ubisoft's long-delayed Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has been narrowed down to a Q4 release window, arriving early next year following a turbulent five-year development cycle.

It has been over five years since Ubisoft first pulled back the curtain on its troubled Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake. According to recent financial results reported by Eurogamer, the embattled project finally has the closest thing yet to a firm release window. Ubisoft has targeted the game for the fourth quarter of its current financial year, which places the launch sometime between January 1 and March 31 of next year. That gives players on console and PC a relatively short wait, provided the project avoids any further setbacks.

The road to this point has been exceptionally rocky. Originally unveiled in September 2020 with a targeted launch for early 2021, the project faced immediate backlash over its reveal trailer. That poor reception triggered a lengthy chain of delays. Development was eventually shifted entirely from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal, where the team essentially rebooted the project from scratch. Even with this latest update, we have not seen a single second of updated gameplay since the studio switch, leaving many in the community to wonder if a major gameplay reveal is coming during the winter showcase circuit.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft continues to lean hard into controversial territory elsewhere in its operations. During the same financial briefing, leadership doubled down on plans to integrate generative AI across its upcoming pipelines, comparing the tech shift to the historical move from 2D to 3D. This comes hot on the heels of community backlash regarding placeholder AI artwork slipping into Anno 117: Pax Romana. As players wait to see if the Sands of Time remake can actually stick its early landing next year, the publisher's aggressive push into automated tools continues to draw sharp scrutiny from creators and fans alike.
