Prime Video Reveals First Look at Live-Action God of War Series Cast

Amazon and Sony have shared the first production photos of Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus in the upcoming live-action God of War series, which is slated to premiere on Prime Video in 2027.

Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television have given players their first official look at the upcoming live-action God of War adaptation. Released via Polygon, production photos show actors Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. Hurst looks remarkably faithful to the Norse era of the PlayStation franchise, sporting the iconic ash-covered skin and a nearly identical costume. Vinson portrays a younger version of Atreus, with the showrunners placing the character at ten years old for the television narrative.

The series will follow the familiar plot of the 2018 game, focusing on the father and son journey to scatter the ashes of Faye from the highest peak. The official synopsis frames the narrative around their dynamic as Kratos attempts to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human. The stacked supporting cast includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan returning as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.

Behind the camera, the adaptation boasts serious talent. Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica and Outlander fame serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, while Emmy Award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye of Shogun and Fallout will helm the first two episodes. Amazon is clearly confident in the IP, having already given the project a two-season order ahead of its planned 2027 premiere on Prime Video.
