Amazon has canceled Nicolas Cage's Spider-Noir after one season, despite strong critical praise and an innovative black-and-white viewing option. However, Amazon and Sony are reportedly still working on future superhero projects together.
Amazon has officially canceled Spider-Noir after a single season on Prime Video. According to reports from Deadline, the live action series starring Nicolas Cage as a 1930s detective with spider powers will not return for a second run. This decision arrives just four months after all eight episodes dropped in a binge release format. Despite strong reviews, including a 92 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8 out of 10 review from IGN, the show failed to maintain the sustained viewership numbers required by the platform.
The series earned early attention for its unique creative choices, such as offering viewers the option to watch the entire show in either full color or classic black and white. While Nielsen data showed a solid start with 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks, the show quickly slipped out of the Prime Video top 10 charts. Even a stacked supporting cast featuring Lamorne Morris and Li Jun Li could not keep the momentum alive for long.
Even though Spider-Noir has wrapped up, the partnership between Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures Television is far from over. Reports indicate that more superhero projects are already in the pipeline through their multi-title deal, with one project reportedly nearing a formal series order. For fans tracking comic adaptations on streaming platforms, this means the end of the line for this specific pulp hero, but certainly not the last Marvel project we will see on Prime Video.
