Adult Swim's President Curtis premieres on July 26 following the Rick and Morty season 9 finale, shifting focus to U.S. President Andre Curtis for an X-Files inspired workplace comedy centered on occult and alien threats.
Fans of adult animation will not have to wait long for their next fix of multiverse adjacent sci fi after the main series wraps up. Adult Swim is launching the first official Rick and Morty spinoff, President Curtis, on July 26. According to reporting from Polygon, the series premiere follows the conclusion of Rick and Morty season 9 and shifts the spotlight entirely to Keith David's recurring character, U.S. President Andre Curtis, as he tackles a blend of terrestrial, occult, and alien threats.
While the main show leans heavily into multiversal nihilism where reality constantly resets, the creative team is taking a different approach here. Showrunner Dan Harmon and co showrunner James Siciliano describe the new project as a workplace sitcom inspired by The X-Files rather than a family sci fi adventure. Curtis is joined by a fresh supporting cast, including Stephanie Beatriz as a skill downloading cyborg chief of staff and Jim Rash as a half leprechaun bodyguard who reads auras. Harmon noted that Curtis has been reworked to be a more sympathetic and grounded leader compared to his appearances alongside Rick Sanchez.
The show will trade infinite dimensional hopping for grounded government conspiracies and supernatural investigations. Viewers can expect storylines involving a CIA cover up of the first moon landing, secret rituals at Camp David, and bizarre geopolitical disputes. For a community that treats animated series as core viewing material alongside streaming creator content, this expansion offers a fresh narrative angle. The premiere airs on Adult Swim at 11:30 p.m. ET on July 26, heading to HBO Max the following day, as detailed by Polygon.
