Predecessor Goes Full Circle: MOBA Revisits OG Map in Fortnite-Esque Throwback

Predecessor, the spiritual successor to Paragon, is bringing back its original map, Agora, in a move reminiscent of Fortnite's nostalgia-fueled return to its classic map, offering players a limited-time trip down memory lane. Get ready to dust off those old strategies and experience Agora once more, with a few fresh twists along the way.

Right, so Predecessor, the free-to-play MOBA born from the ashes of Epic's Paragon, is pulling a fast one – in a good way, mind you. It's dragging us all back to the original Agora map, just like Fortnite did with its OG map and Warzone with Verdansk. Nostalgia trip, anyone?

Back in the day, Epic Games had this MOBA called Paragon. Good game, but they pulled the plug in 2018. But one legend, Robbie Singh, wasn't having any of that. He grabbed the public assets and, fair dinkum, built Predecessor with his studio, Omeda. Now, a year after its initial launch in August 2024, and after the community clamored for it, they're giving us Agora again. Smart move, I reckon.

Singh told Eurogamer that Agora holds a special place for Paragon fans. "The Agora map holds a special place in the hearts of OG Paragon players because it was their first introduction to that world, a world that felt vast, immersive, and alive in a way other MOBAs, constrained by isometric perspectives, simply couldn't replicate," he said. And you know what? He's spot on. That verticality wasn't just for show; it changed the whole game.

Predecessor, if you haven't given it a whirl, is like League of Legends, but with a third-person view and way more opportunities to fall off a ledge. It's strategic, lane-based, and boasts over 40 heroes. This Agora map revival comes as part of Predecessor's Legacy Mode in patch 1.7, launching on July 22nd. Oh, and there’s a new hero dropping too: Renna, a dark magic enthusiast. New skins and gameplay tweaks are on the way as well, because why not?

"There has never been a better time to play Predecessor," boasts Singh. "The game has evolved thanks to our incredible community, who constantly engage and share their feedback. We believe we've found a great blend of fast-paced action and deep strategy, doubling down on the things players care about most, like increased verticality and fluid combat, while introducing an augment system that gives players unprecedented freedom to shape their playstyle."

And he's not wrong, the devs are constantly throwing in new heroes and fostering a competitive scene. So, it looks like Predecessor is aiming to outlive its predecessor and become a real contender in the live-service arena. Will it manage it? Only time will tell, but bringing back Agora is a bloody good start, wouldn't you say?
