Pokémon TCG Pocket Ditches Dodgy Trade Tokens: Turns Out, Gamers Don't Like Being Nickel-and-Dimed

The Pokémon TCG Pocket is finally fixing its much-maligned trading system, ditching the confusing trade tokens and moving to a simpler shinedust-based economy. This update also includes a much-requested Wishlist feature to streamline trading.
Right, listen up, fellow trainers! Remember how The Pokémon Company launched *Pokémon TCG Pocket* with a trading system that required its own weird currency, and everyone collectively face-palmed? Yeah, well, they've finally seen the light. And about bloody time, I reckon!
According to a recent in-game announcement (and spotted by the eagle-eyed folks over at Eurogamer), the update to end all dodgy trading updates is dropping on July 29th. What does this mean for you, the card-slinging virtuoso? Say goodbye to those pesky "trade tokens" and hello to… just using shinedust! Yep, the *existing* in-game currency. Revolutionary, I know. (Okay, maybe not, but a welcome change, eh?).
So, what's changing, exactly? Well, from July 25th at 7am until July 30th at 6:59am (mark those calendars, mates!), trading will be temporarily disabled while they work their coding magic (or, you know, just delete some lines of code). When it comes back online, trade tokens are gone, shinedust is in, and you *won't* have to sacrifice cards to the trading gods anymore! Hallelujah!
To make up for the loss of trade tokens, The Pokémon Company is doubling the amount of shinedust you get for duplicate cards. Plus, you can exchange those leftover trade tokens for pack hourglasses or more shinedust. Here's the breakdown:
* 1 x pack hourglass = 1 x trade token (maximum 60 exchanges) * 10 x shinedust = 1 x trade token (unlimited exchanges) * 100 x shinedust = 10 x trade tokens (unlimited exchanges) * 1000 x shinedust = 100 x trade tokens (unlimited exchanges)
But wait, there's more! (I always wanted to say that). They're also adding a Wishlist feature. Finally! You can now tell everyone which cards you're desperately trying to snag. No more endless scrolling and hoping for the best – just put it on your Wishlist and let the trades roll in. This is going to be a game-changer for completing those sets. (Think less rummaging through a wizard's cluttered attic, more a neatly sorted filing cabinet of desires).
The Pokémon Company initially said these changes would arrive by the end of autumn 2025, so fair play, they're ahead of schedule for once. Could this be a sign of good things to come? Maybe. Or maybe they just realized how universally unpopular the original system was (my bet's on the latter, haha!).
Oh, and don't forget the Pokémon Presents livestream on July 22nd. A Pikachu at DJ decks? Sounds like it's going to be a wild one. Maybe they'll drop even more *Pokémon TCG Pocket* news. Keep your eyes peeled!
