Pokémon GO's Summer Concert: Get Ready to Groove (and Catch 'Em All)!

Niantic's throwing a Summer Concert event in Pokémon GO with special music, boosted Lure Modules, and Shiny Chatot chances, but also dropped support for 32-bit Android devices, leaving some players in the dust.
Right, so Niantic's throwing a musical shindig in Pokémon GO, and fair dinkum, it sounds like a bit of alright. Game Rant's José V. Rossi (bless 'im for keeping up with these things) reported that from July 19th to the 22nd (next year, mind you, 2025!), we're getting a "Summer Concert" event. But what does this mean for us, the trainers braving the digital wilds?
Well, apparently, Junichi Masuda, the absolute legend behind the music of some iconic Pokémon games, has picked out a special arrangement of background music. So, you can bop along while you're chucking Poké Balls. Sounds… relaxing? I reckon it's a nice touch, though. A bit of chill vibes amidst the endless grind, eh?
But hold your horses, there's more than just elevator music in the mix. Lure Modules are getting a boost – lasting a whole hour! – and they'll be attracting specific Pokémon. Plus, the chance of finding a Shiny Chatot at PokeStops is going up! Now that's something to get excited about. Shiny hunting, anyone?
Speaking of Pokémon attracted to Lure Modules, we're talking Jigglypuff, Lotad, Kricketot, Chatot, Audino, Noibat, and Popplio. A decent mix, if you ask me. Good for filling out the ol' Pokedex, and hopefully, snagging a few shinies along the way.
And as if that wasn't enough, there's an event-themed Field Research task where you can find Spinda – and maybe even a Shiny Spinda if the RNG gods are smiling upon you. So, plenty to keep us busy, then. Wonder if it'll be anything groundbreaking?
Now, here's where I put on my skeptical hat. Niantic's also mentioned that Dynamax Latios and Dynamax Latias are debuting during a Max Battle weekend event from July 26th to 27th, 2025. Five-star Max Battles? Sounds like a good challenge, but let's hope they've learned from past raids and made them a bit less… infuriating.
On the less cheerful side of things, Rossi also reported that Niantic has dropped support for 32-bit Android devices. Ouch. That's a fair chunk of players suddenly unable to play. It’s a real kick in the teeth for players on older tech, even if the reasoning (focusing on newer systems) is understandable. Always gotta consider the cost of 'progress' doesn't you?
So, all in all, the Summer Concert event seems like a decent little distraction, a chance to grab some shinies and enjoy some slightly different music. Whether it's enough to keep players engaged in the long term? Well, that's the million-dollar question, isn't it? But hey, at least they're trying something new, eh? And Shiny Chatot! Can't argue with that.
