Pokemon GO's upcoming Mega Squads event introduces Gen 9's Maschiff and Mabosstiff, brings out Shiny Flamigo, and launches new Super Max Level upgrades for Mega Beedrill and Mega Houndoom.
Pokemon GO is kicking off September with a packed update schedule, headlined by the upcoming Mega Squads event. According to Game Rant, developer Niantic is introducing Gen 9 favorites Maschiff and Mabosstiff to the mobile hit alongside a fresh batch of Mega Evolution upgrades. Players can hunt down Maschiff through multiple avenues when the event runs from September 8 to September 14, including the limited GO Pass, event-themed Field Research tasks, and 5 km eggs hatching in the latter half of the week. Alongside the Paldean debuts, Shiny Flamigo makes its first appearance, backed by boosted spawn rates for Shiny Pidgey and Shiny Carvanha.
The event also introduces the new Super Max Level mechanic for veteran Mega evolutions, starting with Mega Beedrill and Mega Houndoom. Once pushed to this new tier, both monsters gain access to an extra Charged Attack while Mega Evolved, specifically Fell Stinger+ for Beedrill and Dark Pulse+ for Houndoom. To help the community prep their rosters, dedicated Mega Raids and Spotlight Hours for Weedle and Houndour are locked in throughout the week. It is a welcome combat buff that opens the door for other heavy hitters like Mega Tyranitar and Mega Gengar to receive similar power spikes down the line.
Before the Mega Squads event takes over, Pokemon GO is also setting the stage for its broader Twilight Trails season and a massive nostalgia trip. The GO Fest Mega Finale on September 5 and 6 marks the long-awaited return of Armored Mewtwo after a six-year absence. For a mobile game that has sustained its massive, community-driven ecosystem for nearly a decade, these seasonal shifts and mechanical rollouts give active players plenty of reasons to coordinate with their local raid groups and clear out inventory space.
