Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Finally Get Pokemon Home Support in October

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are gaining one-way Pokemon Home compatibility in October, allowing players to import classic Kanto catches into modern Switch titles and earn a rare Celebi.

Players will soon be able to bridge the classic Kanto adventure with the modern ecosystem. According to a report by Marc Deschamps at GameRant, The Pokemon Company has officially announced that Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen will receive Pokemon Home compatibility starting this October. This update follows the porting of the beloved Game Boy Advance titles to the Nintendo Switch in early 2025 as part of the franchise's 30th anniversary celebrations. Once the feature goes live, players can move their Kanto catches forward into modern titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon Champions, though the transfer will be a one-way trip.

For veteran collectors, completing the regional Pokedex in FireRed and LeafGreen will yield a special reward. Players who finish the Pokedex will automatically receive a distribution of Celebi through Pokemon Home, a fantastic nod to a mythical Pokemon that was notoriously difficult to obtain during the original Game Boy Advance era. This reward does not require transferring individual Pokemon, as the service will simply scan the game save file to verify completion.

The upcoming Pokemon Home update introduces several broader quality of life improvements as well. Paid subscribers will see their storage capacity expand from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokemon, a welcome change for dedicated collectors preparing for future releases like Pokemon Winds and Waves in 2027. Additionally, Pokemon GO players transferring monsters caught in Safari Balls will find that Home correctly translates the item into a Strange Ball. With the National Pokedex now featuring over a thousand creatures, opening up more avenues for players to complete their collections and carry their digital companions across platforms is a massive win for the community.
