PlayStation's Heist Shooter Fairgames Surfaces Under a New Codename

Sony and Haven Studios' long-awaited heist shooter Fairgames has seemingly resurfaced under the codename Project Espresso via a new PC and PlayStation 5 playtest.

Remember when PlayStation first showed off Fairgame$ with the quirky dollar sign three years ago. According to a recent listing spotted on Player.gg, the competitive heist title from Haven Studios is making a surprise return under the codename Project Espresso. The platform is currently hosting signups for an unannounced competitive action shooter on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC that matches the exact premise of the original reveal.

Project Espresso positions itself as a third-person PvPvE game where competing squads break into high security locations, grab valuable loot, and try to escape before rival players interfere. That lines up precisely with the 2023 pitch for Fairgames, which promised a modern Robin Hood dynamic where players rob the ultra-rich. Promotional material for the new playtest features visual hallmarks from the original trailer, including the distinct gold vaults and characters sporting matching white ski masks.

This project serves as the debut title for Haven Studios, the Montreal developer founded in 2021 by industry veteran Jade Raymond and subsequently acquired by Sony in 2022. While Raymond has since departed the studio, creative director Mathieu Leduc previously emphasized a desire to build a fresh style of PvP experience centered around emergent sandbox gameplay. Sony has not yet officially confirmed the connection between Project Espresso and Fairgames, but players can already request access to the upcoming playtests through Player.gg while we await a proper studio update.
