PlayStation architect Mark Cerny and Geoff Keighley have launched the Nova Games Foundation, a nonprofit initiative offering six-figure grants and mentorship to recent game design graduates.
PlayStation lead architect Mark Cerny has revealed that he is nearing the final chapters of his legendary career, and he plans to spend this next phase paying it forward. Speaking with Game File, Cerny announced a partnership with The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley to launch the Nova Games Foundation. This new nonprofit initiative aims to support fresh game design graduates by awarding twenty recipients every year with substantial financial backing and direct industry mentorship.
The program is designed to give emerging creators a genuine head start without the usual strings attached. Selected graduates will receive a no-strings-attached one hundred thousand dollar grant, with the potential to earn up to an additional half million dollars based on development milestones. Keighley emphasized that the foundation is pure philanthropy rather than a commercial investment, meaning the organization takes zero equity and looks only for a creative return by helping new voices find their footing in the industry.
Support is already mobilizing across the games ecosystem, with visionary director Josef Fares stepping up to donate and mentor participants. The initial wave of fellows will be drawn from the graduating classes of 2026 and 2027 across thirteen partner institutions, including NYU and USC, with applications opening this coming December. As major studio budgets balloon and risk-taking becomes scarcer, initiatives like this provide a vital lifeline for independent creators looking to shape the future of interactive entertainment.
