Kotone Shiomi, the fan-favorite female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable, is finally making her return as a playable character in Persona 5: The Phantom X for the series' thirtieth anniversary.
For years, fans of the Persona series have wondered when Kotone Shiomi would step back into the spotlight. Originally introduced as the optional female lead in Persona 3 Portable on the PSP, she became a fan favorite. Despite high hopes from the community, she was notably absent from the recent Persona 3 Reload remake due to development constraints and budget limitations. Outside of a few spin-off appearances like Persona Q2, she has largely remained locked to older hardware, leaving her community waiting for a modern comeback.
That wait is finally coming to an end, as Game Rant reports that Kotone Shiomi is officially joining Persona 5: The Phantom X. Atlus is bringing the character back as part of a special celebration for the thirtieth anniversary of the Persona franchise. A newly released trailer has given players a glimpse of her in action, and a dedicated broadcast will share more details soon. Her official addition to the game arrives on September 24, alongside a brand new side story for players to dive into.
While the community is thrilled to see her back, her return comes with a catch for some players. Because Persona 5: The Phantom X utilizes a gacha model, adding Kotone to your party will rely on pulling her through banner mechanics rather than a standard character unlock. Even with those monetization hurdles, most fans agree that seeing her rendered in high-resolution modern 3D for the first time is a massive win for a character who deserved a spot in the mainline console remakes.
