Percy Jackson star Walker Scobell is skipping his high school prom after online harassment and death threats targeted potential dates, prompting a public call to end the toxic behavior.
Walker Scobell, known for leading the Disney+ adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, recently announced that he is skipping his high school prom. According to a message shared on his Instagram, the seventeen-year-old actor made the decision to protect others after receiving concerning death threats directed at teenage girls in his community who could be associated with him as a date.
Scobell used the announcement to call for an immediate halt to the online harassment targeting his classmates. While stepping into the spotlight at a young age often brings intense fandom attention, this situation highlights a darker side of digital culture where extreme parasocial behavior spills over into real-world harm.
Incidents like this remind us how toxic fan culture can impact everyday communities. As entertainment and social spaces become increasingly intertwined, maintaining basic boundaries and digital safety is more important than ever for creators and young stars alike.
