Paramount Games Studio and Bloober Team are teaming up for Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, starring Michelle Forbes as Ro Laren, with executives stating their goal is to create the greatest Star Trek game ever made.
Paramount Games Studio is aiming high with its latest franchise entry, stating that the ultimate goal for Bloober Team is to craft the best Star Trek game of all time. Revealed exclusively at IGN Live and reported by IGN South Africa, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is a surprise new project from the studio behind the critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake. The game stars Michelle Forbes, who is reprising her beloved fan-favorite role as Ro Laren. Players will follow her journey as she becomes stranded on a mysterious alien planet, setting the stage for a narrative-driven sci-fi experience.
Bloober Team has built a strong reputation for psychological depth and atmospheric storytelling, which makes this partnership an intriguing shift for both the developer and the iconic sci-fi license. Paramount Games Studio, which now houses both Paramount and Skydance gaming divisions, is backing the project with substantial investment and creative support. Shawn Kittelsen, senior vice president and head of creative and production at Paramount Games Studio, made the studio's lofty ambitions clear to IGN ahead of the reveal, emphasizing that they want to surpass every classic title in the franchise's long interactive history.
For a franchise with deep roots in gaming, from classic space combat sims and strategy titles to enduring MMORPGs like Star Trek Online, setting the bar at the all-time best is a heavy challenge. However, modern players appreciate when publishers give distinct, narrative-focused studios the space and budget to swing for the fences. If Bloober Team can translate its atmospheric expertise into the vastness of Federation space, this could be the definitive Star Trek adventure that the community has been waiting for.
