Paramount Games Studio announced its official launch at Summer Game Fest, revealing plans to expand major IPs into interactive media, including potential video game adaptations for the Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan television universe.
Paramount is making a major push into the interactive space with the formal launch of Paramount Games Studio, and the company has some massive franchises in its crosshairs. During Summer Game Fest, as reported by Polygon, the multimedia giant confirmed that it is actively looking to expand beyond its core properties like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and SpongeBob SquarePants. The studio has already made waves by partnering with PlatinumGames for a dark, futuristic adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, but the ambition does not stop there.
In an interview with Polygon, Shawn Kittelsen, head of creative and production at Paramount Games Studio, revealed that the expansive worlds created by Taylor Sheridan are firmly on the table. This means interactive projects based on Yellowstone, along with related shows like Tulsa King, Landman, and the spy thriller Lioness, could eventually make their way to PC, consoles, and cloud platforms. For fans of these gritty dramas, the prospect of exploring the Dutton family ranch or engaging in high stakes espionage through an interactive medium opens up some intriguing new avenues for the franchise.
Of course, modern players have plenty of reason to approach publisher led game studios with a healthy dose of skepticism. Too often, massive entertainment IPs are handed off to the lowest bidder for a quick cash grab, resulting in forgettable tie ins that do nothing for the source material. However, Kittelsen emphasized that the team views themselves as cultural stewards rather than simple value extractors. He noted that the studio is being highly selective with its development partners to ensure the games respect the time and money fans invest in these worlds. If Paramount can actually deliver quality experiences that put the player first, this new division could become a major player in the modern cross platform landscape.
