Paralives has launched in early access on Steam after seven years of development, bringing a fresh indie competitor to the life simulation genre.
The long-awaited life simulation title Paralives has officially launched in early access on Steam, as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun. First announced by solo developer Alex Mass back in 2019 before growing into a dedicated indie studio, the game arrives as a genuine challenger in a genre long dominated by Electronic Arts and The Sims franchise. Early access means players should expect a foundation rather than a feature-complete rival right out of the gate, but the initial release already packs substantial depth for fans of the genre.
The current early access build features robust character creation tools with intricate micro-adjustments for the game's characters, known as Paras. Players can dive into detailed house building and decorating before sending their characters out into an open world to secure jobs, start families, and navigate social dynamics. While features like weather, seasons, animals, and vehicles are missing from this initial launch, Paralives Studio has outlined a roadmap promising these additions for free over the next two years alongside expanded town editing and NPC storylines.
The launch also marks the end of the project's long-running Patreon campaign, which previously helped fund development through community backing. The studio has officially shut down paid subscriptions while unlocking all past posts for public viewing, pivoting entirely toward Steam sales as the game takes its next big step. For a community that has spent years watching the project evolve through creator updates and social media highlights, this early access release is a major milestone for independent game development.
