Overwatch Pushes Swift Balance Patch for New Roster, Nerfing Almost Everyone

Following a massive five-hero drop, Overwatch has received a balance patch that nerfs most of the new roster while giving targeted buffs to characters like Emre, Mizuki, and Anran.

Blizzard is wasting no time addressing the meta after dropping five new heroes into Overwatch all at once. According to patch notes covered by Polygon, a fresh update has hit the live servers with swift balance adjustments aimed at reigning in the new roster. Nearly every newcomer has received nerfs, though a few key exceptions managed to walk away with substantial buffs. Domina saw adjustments to her barrier shield durability, making her panels easier to clear, alongside unlisted tweaks targeting her crystal charge interactions that community members quickly spotted and tested in matches.

Meanwhile, Emre and Mizuki emerged as the primary winners of this patch cycle. Emre received increased explosion ranges for his grenades and better fall-off damage when aiming down sights, giving players a more reliable tool to deal with mobile airborne threats like Jetpack Cat. Anran also received a welcome damage boost to her primary fire, and her Fan the Flames ability is now treated like a beam attack, meaning armor reduces its damage by a flat thirty percent. Jetpack Cat was dialed back slightly with reduced fuel for her flight, and Vendetta saw her lifesteal perk reduced from forty percent down to thirty percent.

For a game that relies so heavily on tight competitive balance and fast community discovery, pushing out quick adjustments is essential when dropping multiple characters into the ecosystem at once. Players are already experimenting with how these changes affect ranked queues and casual lobbies. You can read the original breakdown over at Polygon to check the full list of adjustments.
