Overwatch is celebrating a successful Season 1 launch with a surprise Double Match XP weekend and five free Loot Boxes for all players who log in before February 23.
Blizzard is giving players a solid incentive to clear their schedules this weekend. Following a remarkably strong start to the year, the hero shooter is treating the community to a surprise Double Match XP event alongside five free Loot Boxes just for logging in. Running through Monday, February 23, the bonus applies directly to baseline match XP. Because it stacks with existing group bonuses and in-demand role incentives, players can easily pull in well over two thousand Battle Pass XP from a single match. It is a welcome breather for anyone trying to grind out the final tiers of the current pass.
This generous weekend drop serves as a victory lap for a game that has enjoyed an impressive resurgence. Blizzard has hit the ground running in 2026, officially dropping the sequel numbering for a soft relaunch that introduced year-long seasonal storylines, a refreshed user interface, new subroles, and a massive wave of fresh heroes. The strategy is clearly working. The community has responded by shattering consecutive player records on Steam and driving a major surge in viewership across Twitch and other streaming platforms. When a live service game actually sticks the landing on a major pivot, tangible rewards like free loot go a long way toward keeping the momentum alive.
For veterans and returning players alike, moments like this highlight the value of jumping into active digital economies when developers are looking to share the wealth. While challenge XP remains untouched by the multiplier, the sheer volume of extra progression makes this the ideal window to group up with friends and knock out some matches. Head over to Game Rant for the full breakdown of the event details and start stacking those rewards before Monday rolls around.
