Blizzard has announced Shion as Overwatch hero 52, a Damage-class Hashimoto mob boss arriving with season 3 on June 16 alongside a new Japan-themed map.
Blizzard is expanding the Overwatch roster once again with the introduction of Shion, a new Damage-class character slated to arrive with season 3 on June 16. Revealed in a cinematic trailer shared by Polygon, Shion is a dual-wielding, oni-masked Hashimoto leader tied to Talon through Vendetta. Lore enthusiasts will immediately recognize the Hashimoto connection as the fierce rivals of the Shimada clan, giving characters like Genji and Hanzo some fresh narrative weight to contend with in the game's ongoing universe.
From a gameplay perspective, Shion brings a high-mobility toolkit to the Damage role. The reveal trailer showcases a character who is barely human, tearing across the battlefield on a motorcycle and deploying a lethal blade for close-quarters combat. Players are already speculating on whether that blade operates as a standard secondary attack or forms part of a larger ability kit. Alongside the new hero, season 3 introduces a brand new Japan-themed map that ties directly into Shion's backstory, marking the first fresh arena for traditional modes since the game's recent relaunch.
This release keeps up the aggressive content cadence Blizzard promised following the game's recent rebranding and drop of the sequel number. Shion marks the seventh hero added in 2026 alone, following the debut of Sierra in season 2 and the massive five-hero drop during season 1. With three more heroes still scheduled for later this year as part of the tenth-anniversary celebrations, the meta is going to keep shifting rapidly. Competitive queues and creator streams are bound to see plenty of chaotic experimentation once Shion hits live servers next week.
