Overwatch 2 Finally Gets a Pure Melee DPS Hero With Vendetta

Overwatch 2 is shaking up its meta with Vendetta, the game's first melee-only Damage hero, featuring high-mobility sword combat, an aggressive kit, and an upcoming play trial in late November.

Blizzard is shaking up the hero shooter meta by introducing Vendetta, the 45th playable character joining the roster as the game's very first melee-only Damage hero. Ahead of her official debut in Season 20 this December, developers have detailed her high-octane kit, centered around a massive hardlight greatsword known as the Palatine Fang. According to details shared with Polygon by associate game director Alec Dawson and senior character artist Bryan Bedford, Vendetta is designed to close distances fast and pressure backlines with relentless up-close combat.

Vendetta's abilities lean heavily into aggressive mobility and crowd control. Her primary attack is a three-hit combo ending in a high-damage overhead slash, while her passive ability, Onslaught, ramps up her movement and attack speed the more she lands hits. To help her bridge the gap against ranged opponents, she features Whirlwind Slash for rapid area damage and Soaring Slice, which lets her throw her sword and teleport directly to it. She also packs defensive utility through Warding Stance to block frontal attacks and a three-stage ultimate called Sundering Blade that tears straight through enemy armor.

For players who love high-mobility skirmishers and frantic close-quarters action, Vendetta represents a major shift in how team fights play out. The community will not have to wait until December to test her out, either. Blizzard is running a limited-time play trial from November 26 to December 2, giving everyone a chance to see how she handles against current tier lists.
