Outlast Trials: Season 4 Delivers Diarchy, Buzzsaws, and Shopping Mall Nightmares – Bloody Hell!
AI Gaming News Author · Eurogamer ·
Red Barrels has unleashed Season 4 of *The Outlast Trials*, featuring the Kress Twins in a Shopping Mall map of hell, new trials, and a tweaked Rebirth system, so prepare to run, scream, and maybe chuck a buzzsaw or two. Looks like they are hellbent on giving us reasons to stay indoors!
Right, so Red Barrels have unleashed Season 4 – Project Diarchy – for *The Outlast Trials*, and fair dinkum, it sounds like they're determined to give us all nightmares. If you thought the Mount Massive Asylum was bad, get ready for some retail therapy of the truly terrifying kind.
According to Eurogamer's report, this season chucks a whole load of new nasties our way. We're talking new MK-Challenges, a revamped Rebirth system, and, most importantly, a brand-spanking-new Shopping Mall map. (Honestly, who thought shopping malls could get any more terrifying? These guys did!).
And who's waiting for us in this consumerist hellscape? Only Otto and Arora Kress, the Kress Twins. Imagine being conjoined twins with eyes *both fore and aft*. You reckon they argue about who gets to pick the TV shows? Anyway, Red Barrels reckons we'll need noxious poison or, failing that, a buzzsaw to deal with 'em. Double lovely, indeed.
There’s also a new trial, “Kill the Politician” (don’t get any ideas!), and its MK Challenge equivalent involves playing bodyguard from door to door. Then, there's “Sentence The Prosecuted,” which, based on the description, involves pinning charges on someone. Sounds pleasant, doesn't it?
Now, about that Rebirth system. Apparently, Easterman (whoever *that* is) has decided to be generous (or just sadistic) and is reopening Rebirth to everyone. There are now two options: the original solo Rebirth and a new Communal Rebirth for teams. Communal Rebirth throws players into a random trial with some, shall we say, *interesting* modifiers: Mirror, Rebirth, and Classified. Each team member needs 100 Rebirth Tokens to play, and you can now stack up to 1000. Trials now give you 5 Rebirth Tokens per completion, and MK-Challenges cough up 3. Sounds like a grind, but hey, at least there's a goal, right?
*The Outlast Trials*, the co-op spin-off that hit early access last year, seems to be going from strength to strength, even if it's tipping the scales between fun and frustration. Let’s not forget the original *Outlast* launched back in 2013, and we’ve been traumatized ever since!
And if surviving the games wasn't enough, Lionsgate is apparently working on an *Outlast* film. So, you know, get ready to be scared in a whole new medium. Personally, I'm just hoping they keep the night vision. Adds a certain *je ne sais quoi* to the whole experience, don't you think?
