Oops! 'Dune: Awakening' Patch Goes Full Fremen, Wipes Out Bases – But Don't Panic, Refunds Incoming!

Funcom accidentally deleted player bases in *Dune: Awakening* with a recent patch, but they're owning up to the mistake and promising to restore lost items, so Arrakis' displaced residents can breathe easy(ish). Plus, they're cracking down on cheaters, which is always a win.

Right, gather 'round, mates, because Funcom, the folks behind *Dune: Awakening*, have had a bit of a whoopsie. Seems like their latest patch decided to go full-on Shai-Hulud and swallowed player bases whole. Yeah, you read that right – vanished! Bases, vehicles, hard-earned loot… all gone. Bloody hell.

According to Eurogamer, this all kicked off when a patch prematurely switched some PvE zones to PvP. Apparently, these changes weren't supposed to go live until the next Coriolis cycle (that's when the Deep Desert gets its annual sandblasting, in case you're new to Arrakis). So, players who'd innocently set up shop in these soon-to-be-hazardous areas found themselves unexpectedly homeless and considerably lighter in the resource department.

Funcom's response? A swift apology and a promise to make things right. "This was an oversight in our development process and internal communications," they confessed. "We're incredibly sorry that this happened and we want to acknowledge that this should have been handled better." Fair play to 'em for owning up to it, I reckon.

The good news is that Funcom is planning to restore all lost vehicles and items. Impacted players should see their stuff reappear in the in-game Claim Rewards tab sometime this week. So, if your spice harvesters are currently floating in the void, keep an eye out.

But that's not all! Funcom is also tackling a backlog of other item loss issues caused by bugs. They admit that their initial tools weren't up to snuff for tracking and reimbursing everything, but they've been working hard to improve them. They’ve even got a “dedicated team” focused on preventing item loss from server crashes and other digital gremlins. Sounds like they're taking this seriously, which is a relief.

Beyond base-nuking incidents, Funcom is also cracking down on exploits and cheats. They’ve already banned hundreds of players and promise more bans are on the way. "We have zero tolerance for the type of player behaviour that has an impact on the experience of other players," they stated. Good on 'em for keeping Arrakis a (relatively) fair place to play.

So, while the base-vanishing act wasn't ideal, it seems Funcom is doing what they can to fix the situation and keep the game running smoothly. Let's just hope the next patch doesn't accidentally summon a sandworm into our living rooms. (Although, imagine the spice farming potential... just kidding! Mostly.)
