Strategy fans looking to sink their teeth into a fresh historical sandbox have plenty to anticipate later this month. Publisher Hooded Horse and developer Mohawk Games have announced Empires of the Indus, the seventh major DLC expansion for their critically acclaimed 4X strategy title, Old World. Arriving on March 30 across Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, the upcoming expansion shifts its historical lens toward the rich cultures and civilizations that flourished along the river Indus across central and south Asia.
The new content drop introduces major factions like the Mauryas under Emperor Ashoka and the nomadic horse lords of the Yuezhi who later formed the Kushan Empire. Players can expect distinct objectives and mechanics tailored to these cultures, including systems for elevating Buddhism into a global religion and navigating intense political squabbles between rival Tamilakam families. Alongside these powerhouses, the expansion brings Hinduism into the game, adds four new Wonders, introduces jungle terrain, and drops over 200 fresh events, 60 ambitions, and four rare resources, plus the Huns as a new native tribe to manage.
Old World has carved out a dedicated community since its initial release by blending traditional hex based strategy with character driven roleplay that feels closer to Crusader Kings than standard historical builders. It functions just as much as a chaotic story engine about messy dynastic politics as it does a pure strategy game. For players who love deep simulation and emergent narrative in their strategy sessions, this South Asian expansion looks like a compelling reason to jump back into the campaign map when it launches.
