Ocarina of Time Remake Brings Manual Jumping and Real-Time Hyrule to Switch 2

Nintendo revealed gameplay for the Ocarina of Time remake during the Zelda 40th anniversary Direct, bringing modern mechanics and a new engine to the Switch 2 on November 5.

Nintendo celebrated forty years of its flagship franchise during the latest Direct by finally showing gameplay for the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, the footage showcases a largely faithful recreation of the Nintendo 64 classic built inside a brand-new engine. Producer Eiji Aonuma narrated the presentation, highlighting a blend of nostalgic touchstones and modern mechanical upgrades that aim to modernize the definitive adventure without losing its original identity.

The update introduces several major quality-of-life improvements requested by players for decades, including manual jumping, dedicated underwater swimming and diving, and a streamlined single-button item swapping system. Hyrule also feels more alive thanks to real-time day and night cycles across the entire map, newly accessible areas in Hyrule Castle Town, and optional microphone controls that let players hum or whistle the iconic ocarina melodies directly. Nintendo even kept traditional loading screens on purpose to preserve the pacing of the original release.

Alongside the core game, the release ties into modern ecosystem features including full voice acting in cutscenes, a dedicated companion app for mini-quests and screenshots, and an ocarina music creator. True to contemporary hardware launches, the game will also support new amiibo figures that unlock exclusive in-game masks. Eurogamer first detailed these announcements, giving fans plenty to discuss as we count down to November.
