Apple Original Films has officially picked up The Waffle House Index, a high-concept sci-fi thriller starring Inde Navarrette, fresh off her breakout performance in Obsession. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is based on a screenplay by Andrew Nunnelly that landed on the acclaimed 2025 Black List. Louis Paxton is attached to direct, with Plan B Entertainment producing and Navarrette stepping into an executive producer role alongside her starring duties as a beleaguered waitress facing an apocalyptic overnight shift.
Borrowing its name from the real-world metric used to gauge storm severity, the film promises escalating chaos that goes far beyond standard late-night service. The plot teases everything from flash floods and rogue gunmen to crocodile attacks, nuclear threats, and a mysterious subterranean bunker hidden beneath the restaurant floor. It is a wildly creative premise that blends mundane service industry dread with high-stakes science fiction.
For gaming and streaming fans keeping up with pop culture shifts, Navarrette's rising profile points to a busy future, especially as she reportedly takes on roles in upcoming major franchise revivals like Marvel's X-Men. While the project sits firmly in the cinematic space, genre fans tracking unconventional storytelling and rising talent will want to keep this on their radar as production ramps up.
