Obsession breakout star Inde Navarrette will lead and executive produce Apple's upcoming sci-fi thriller The Waffle House Index, a genre-bending project featuring aliens, floods, and killer crocodiles.
Following a breakout performance in Curry Barker's hit horror film Obsession, actress Inde Navarrette is officially making the jump to a massive new sci-fi project. According to reporting from Polygon, Navarrette is set to lead and executive produce The Waffle House Index for Apple Original Films alongside Plan B Entertainment. It is a major career move for an actor who has quickly captured the attention of genre fans across film and streaming platforms.
The project takes its name from the real-world informal metric used to gauge hurricane severity based on local restaurant operations, but it pivots into something entirely chaotic. Navarrette will star as a waitress whose disastrous night at work spirals completely out of control. The plot promises a wild genre mashup involving armed strangers, a massive flood, killer crocodiles, a nuclear explosion, and a mysterious bunker hiding extraterrestrials.
For a generation of players and viewers who treat cinema, streaming, and gaming as interconnected entertainment spheres, boundary-pushing genre trips are always appointment viewing. Alongside her completed work in the roller coaster thriller Invertigo and rumored franchise conversations, Navarrette is cementing herself as a definitive modern genre icon. The Waffle House Index might have an unconventional name, but it is shaping up to be an unmissable ride when it hits Apple's streaming lineup.
