Nvidia Launches DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction to Upgrade Lighting and Shadows

Nvidia has released DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, utilizing an upgraded Transformer architecture to deliver sharper shadows, faster denoising, and better lighting accuracy in upcoming games like 007: First Light and Control Resonant.

Nvidia has officially released DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, bringing a fresh wave of graphical upgrades to high-end PC rigs. Building directly upon the second-generation Transformer architecture introduced in DLSS 4, this update features deeper spatial awareness, added developer controls, and a more efficient AI denoiser. According to Nvidia, the tech cleans up ray-traced and path-traced effects faster while significantly reducing ghosting and motion blur.

Rock Paper Shotgun originally detailed the update following a pre-Gamescom briefing, noting that the improvements are especially noticeable in realism-leaning titles. Nvidia demonstrated the tech using Alan Wake 2, showing sharper shadow casting through window shutters and more accurate light reflection on surfaces. Beyond the Wakeverse, the feature is slated to arrive in IO Interactive's 007: First Light on September 15th and Control Resonant when it launches on September 24th.

While hardware enthusiasts are often right to eye aggressive graphical AI features with healthy skepticism, this release leans into traditional machine learning rather than heavy-handed generative tinkering. For players running top-tier hardware who want cleaner lighting and crisp environmental details without compromising an art style, DLSS 4.5 is a welcome addition. It gives high-end setups another tool to push fidelity further, ensuring that complex scenes render with better accuracy and less visual noise.
