Hello Games has released the massive Cosmos update for No Man's Sky, introducing space station ownership, deep space exploration, and alliance systems to celebrate the game's tenth anniversary.
Hello Games is marking a decade of continuous development for No Man's Sky with the massive Cosmos update. Studio head Sean Murray noted that despite being known as a space game, the title has rarely touched the actual void between planets since its initial release. Cosmos changes that dynamic by finally making the cosmic backdrop feel alive, adding deep space exploration features that modern players have requested for years.
The update introduces a completely redesigned Star Map, massive salvageable space hulks with high risk reward mechanics, and dense asteroid belts capable of supporting player constructed bases. Most notably, players can now purchase and fully customize their own space stations. These hubs can serve as private clubhouses or headquarters for newly formed player alliances, pushing the social and multiplayer aspects of the game further than ever before. For the first time, players can even attempt the perilous journey to reach the actual star at the center of their solar system.
Alongside the gameplay additions, Hello Games launched a new expedition called Our Journey Continues, which acts as an interactive museum celebrating the game's forty major updates. As the community continues to explore less than one percent of the total available planets, these new deep space mechanics ensure that the endgame offers fresh reasons to group up on console, PC, and cloud platforms. IGN South Africa originally reported on these additions, highlighting the studio's ongoing commitment to a redemption story that set a new standard for modern live service longevity.
