Nintendo's upcoming Ocarina of Time remake features companion app tracking, trivia, and a physical ocarina peripheral that connects directly to the Switch 2.
Nintendo recently detailed the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, revealing that some of the most creative additions live entirely outside the main software. Series producer Eiji Aonuma showcased a physical, fully functional ocarina that connects directly to the Switch 2. Players can physically play the instrument to trigger in-game song sequences for Link, or use the controller microphone to hum notes if they prefer not to pick up a wind instrument. Traditional button inputs remain available for players who want a standard setup.
The experience also expands through the companion Nintendo Switch app, which introduces a suite of features called Zelda Notes. This includes Today's Record, an impressively detailed stat tracker that monitors everything from daily play time and enemy defeats to the number of rupees earned and blades of grass cut. Other app integrations feature Gossip Quests, which reward players with points for finding specific in-game locations using photo clues, and a dedicated digital ocarina that lets users record and share custom songs via QR codes. There is even a daily trivia mode packing two thousand questions complete with progressive rank rewards.
While Polygon notes that Nintendo has yet to reveal pricing or a release date for the physical ocarina peripheral, these ecosystem expansions show a clever approach to modernizing a classic title. By blending tangible hardware accessories with robust companion app features and community sharing tools, Nintendo is turning a nostalgic single-player adventure into an interactive social loop that extends far beyond the final credits.
