Nintendo is releasing a limited Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and accessories to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary and the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake, though initial pre-orders have already sold out.
Nintendo is celebrating four decades of adventures in Hyrule with a striking new hardware lineup for the Switch 2, arriving just ahead of the anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Revealed in a recent Nintendo Direct and reported by Polygon, the 40th Anniversary Edition system features a sleek black, gold, and green aesthetic complete with Triforce decals and the iconic Hylian Crest. The collection includes themed Joy-Con 2 controllers, a dedicated carrying case, and a Pro Controller that comes bundled with a stylish Hyrule Castle display stand. Securing this gear will test the patience of collectors, because initial pre-orders for the $519.99 console and its accompanying accessories sold out almost instantly across major retailers.
The hardware rollout arrives during a complicated period for Nintendo pricing. The standard Switch 2 base price recently increased to $499.99, following broader industry hardware hikes driven by ongoing component shortages. While players are generally wary of paying higher entry costs for new generation hardware, limited edition collector bundles always manage to generate immense enthusiasm among dedicated fandoms, even when stock vanishes within seconds of going live.
Fans do not have to wait long to put their new gear to use. The Ocarina of Time remake launches on November 5, promising to showcase what the updated hardware can achieve when reimagining a classic world. Beyond gaming, the franchise footprint continues to expand with the completion of filming for the live action Zelda film, ensuring that the series will dominate pop culture conversations across social feeds and streaming platforms for months to come.
