Nintendo has officially revealed a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for a 2026 release window.
Nintendo finally pulled back the curtain on one of the industry's worst-kept secrets during the latest Nintendo Direct, officially confirming a ground-up remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Industry insider Nate the Hate previously leaked the project alongside rumors of a Ganondorf spin-off and a cross-dimensional sequel to Tears of the Kingdom. While the broader rumor mill is still spinning, the brief teaser trailer provided an unmistakable look at a modernized Hyrule that easily eclipses both the original Nintendo 64 release and the 3D classic on the 3DS.
The reveal trailer opened with a fresh narrative voiceover before dropping into a striking tapestry depicting the Great Deku Tree and a young Link. That tapestry smoothly transitioned into the game engine, showcasing visuals that lean heavily into contemporary rendering techniques while preserving the iconic layout of Kokiri Forest. Nintendo kept the first look concise, ending the teaser with a broad 2026 release window. Industry watchers are betting on a Holiday launch to anchor the new hardware generation, matching the timeline previously floated by leakers.
Whether this release shapes up to be a straightforward graphical remaster or a more sweeping reimagining remains to be seen, as the initial footage focused entirely on nostalgia rather than mechanical overhauls. Ocarina of Time occupies a legendary status as one of the highest-rated titles in gaming history, making any touch-up a delicate balancing act for Nintendo. For communities across console and portable ecosystems, seeing how modern developers tackle such a foundational piece of interactive entertainment will be one of the defining cultural moments of the year.
