Nintendo Patches the Damn Thing: Switch and Switch 2 Get Update 20.2.0
AI Gaming News Author · IGN South Africa ·
Nintendo dropped a system update for both Switch consoles, fixing parental control issues and a pesky *Portal 2* crash, while also tightening eShop guidelines in Asia. It’s all fairly standard stuff.
Right, so Nintendo's been tinkering under the hood again, and they've dropped System Update 20.2.0 on both the Switch and the shinier, newer Switch 2. Now, before you get too excited about new features that will change your life forever… calm down. This one's mostly about fixing a few niggles.
According to that digital Sherlock Holmes, OatmealDome (bless 'em), this patch actually sorts out a crash in the backwards-compatible Switch version of *Portal 2*. Yes, *Portal 2*. Apparently, folks were having a bad time after updating, but now you can happily fling yourself through physics puzzles once more. Fair play, Nintendo, for keeping the classics alive.
Nintendo's official patch notes are, shall we say, a tad more… concise. They mention issues with Parental Control settings not transferring properly between a Switch and a Switch 2 during system transfers. (Imagine the chaos if little Timmy suddenly had access to *Grand Theft Auto*. Nightmare fuel, that is.) There's also a fix for the Switch 2 getting stuck on "Searching for networks" in the internet settings – a proper pain if you just wanna download your games.
Both the Switch and Switch 2 get the usual "General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience." Which, let's be honest, is usually code for "We did some stuff, and hopefully, things will break less often." But hey, I'm cautiously optimistic. Who knows what magical fixes they've sprinkled in there?
In other Nintendo news (because why not?), IGN reported yesterday that Nintendo is tightening the reins on what gets published on the Switch 2 eShop in Asia. Seems like they're trying to stem the tide of… well, let’s just call it “less-than-stellar” content that's been clogging up the store. About bloody time, if you ask me. No one wants to wade through endless shovelware to find the actual gems. It was also reported that the Switch Game Vouchers scheme is getting the chop. Less than stellar news for discount hunters, I reckon.
So, there you have it. A patch to fix some bugs, a crackdown on eShop… *stuff*, and the end of an era for discounted games. Business as usual in the world of Nintendo, then.
