Polygon's hands-on preview of the Nintendo Switch 2 spring schedule highlights Mario Tennis Fever, a Mario Party-style Super Mario Bros. Wonder expansion, the bizarre Virtual Boy revival, and Capcom's impressive Pragmata demo.
Nintendo is setting a fast pace for its latest hardware as hands-on previews paint an encouraging picture of the upcoming months. Reporting from a recent hands-on event in New York City, Polygon detailed a stacked spring release schedule for the platform. Things kick off with Mario Tennis Fever on February 12, introducing chaotic mechanics like court-altering hazard shots that lean heavily into party game energy. That is followed closely by the massive Super Mario Bros. Wonder expansion, Meetup in Bellabel Park, launching on March 26. Instead of traditional platforming levels, the expansion leans into cooperative and competitive minigames reminiscent of Mario Party, offering plenty of potential for couch co-op chaos.
The hardware updates are getting just as much attention as the software library, especially given Nintendo's penchant for leaning into nostalgia with a modern twist. The polarizing Virtual Boy revival is slated for February 17, delivering an authentically disorienting retro experience that embraces its own clunky novelty. On the third party front, Capcom is making a strong showing on the platform. Hands-on time with the upcoming sci-fi action game Pragmata left reviewers deeply impressed after a double-run through the demo, cementing it as a major title to watch when it launches in April.
While the spring window looks remarkably busy, the broader outlook for the rest of the year remains a bit of a blank slate. Releases like Pokémon Pokopia in March and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream in April will keep players engaged early on, while titles like Yoshi and the Mysterious Book wait in the wings without firm release dates. Nintendo has built solid momentum out of the gate, but the real test will be maintaining this release cadence through the latter half of the year as the platform matures.
