Nintendo is bringing a selection of Virtual Boy games to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack starting February 17, complete with modern quality-of-life features and optional physical accessories.
Nintendo is digging deep into its hardware vault once again. According to a report by Polygon, the company is bringing a curated library of Virtual Boy titles to Nintendo Switch Online starting on February 17. Subscribers to the Expansion Pack tier will soon get access to cult classics like Galactic Pinball and Virtual Boy Wario Land, with additional titles and two previously unreleased games planned to roll out later in the year.
The original Virtual Boy launched thirty years ago as one of Nintendo's most famous misfires, remembered mostly for its monochromatic red display and a distinct lack of third-party support. To experience these retro titles on modern hardware, Nintendo is offering two physical accessory options alongside the digital release. Players can choose between a full version retailing for $99.99 or a budget-friendly cardboard alternative priced at $24.99.
Modern conveniences are smoothing out the notoriously punishing difficulty of these 90s relics. The Switch versions will include standard subscription perks like gameplay rewind functionality and custom controller mapping. Later this year, an update will even allow players to swap the iconic eye-straining red tint for white or green alternatives by removing the physical lens cover on the accessory. Head over to Polygon for the full breakdown of the initial launch lineup and upcoming releases.
