Indie studio 314 Arts has unveiled NightRunner, a PvE co-op survival game that combines extraction mechanics, horde shooter action, and a moving train base.
Developer 314 Arts has revealed NightRunner, an upcoming PvE co-op survival game that mixes the tension of extraction shooters with classic horde mechanics. According to GameRant, the core gameplay loop centers on defending a moving train as it cuts through a post-apocalyptic world. Players must manage specific train wagons, stop at stations to scavenge for valuable gear, and successfully extract before the horde overwhelms them. The title also draws clear inspiration from fan favorites like Killing Floor, Escape from Tarkov, and the classic TranZit map from Call of Duty Zombies.
NightRunner keeps things strictly cooperative by dropping PvP entirely in favor of team-focused survival. Along with the main train defense mode, the game includes a traditional Endless Mode and structured Dungeons featuring intense boss encounters. Players can pick from distinct classes like the Engineer and Stalker, utilizing class-based skills and customizable Runner Kits to handle escalating threats. A clever zone-shrink mechanic also kicks in when train wagons are destroyed, tightening the play area and forcing squads to adapt on the fly much like a battle royale.
For players eager to test out the hybrid formula, a Steam playtest is scheduled to begin very quickly. While the studio has not locked down a full release date yet, current plans point toward a potential launch sometime in 2027. Entering a crowded Steam market for extraction games is no small task, but the distinct train-centric survival premise gives this indie project a solid hook for co-op squads looking for their next weekend obsession.
