Polygon's latest report highlights Madeleine Roux's upcoming Star Wars: Legacy novel, which bridges the gap between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker by focusing on the relationship between Rey and Leia.
The Star Wars sequel trilogy left plenty of narrative gaps in its timeline, giving expanded universe writers fertile ground to explore the quieter moments between massive cinematic events. Madeleine Roux is stepping into that space with Star Wars: Legacy, published by Random House Worlds. Set firmly between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, the novel tackles a dynamic that the films largely sidelined. It pairs Leia Organa with her unofficial Jedi Padawan, Rey, as they travel to the planet Tython to repair Rey's fractured lightsaber and confront lingering ghosts from their pasts.
For players and viewers invested in the emotional beats of the franchise, this kind of storytelling bridges the connective tissue that fast-paced blockbuster movies often skip over. Roux noted in a statement to Polygon that the project serves as a deep interrogation of a complex relationship, offering fans of both characters a chance to see their bond explored with room to breathe. An exclusive excerpt published by Polygon showcases the pair navigating a mysterious, abandoned temple alongside a skeptical member of the Church of the Force, highlighting how the book leans into ancient lore and psychological tests rather than non-stop laser battles.
As modern entertainment increasingly relies on multi-platform storytelling to flesh out universes, books like this act as essential companion pieces for communities who want more depth from their favorite properties. Whether you are following the lore through novels, streaming series, or diving into the latest gaming adaptations, these character-driven interludes help enrich the broader sandbox.
