Sony's latest PS5 firmware update introduces default PSSR enhancements for the Pro model, regional Top 10 activity widgets, and improved voice chat display names.
Sony has rolled out system software update version 26.06-14.00.00 for the PlayStation 5, bringing several notable features that directly impact how players interact and play. For PS5 Pro owners, the update automatically enables Enhanced PSSR Image Quality by default. This applies sharper visual processing even to games built for older versions of the technology, though players can easily toggle it off in the settings if they prefer. It is a welcome hardware-level enhancement that aims to squeeze extra visual fidelity out of current libraries.
Beyond hardware tweaks, the update focuses heavily on social discovery and multiplayer connectivity. A new voice chat feature finally lets players enable display names directly on screen to see exactly who is speaking, solving a common headache during chaotic cross-platform party sessions. Meanwhile, the Welcome Hub now features a Community Activity widget housing two distinct lists. Trending Now highlights ten multiplayer games or modes experiencing sudden surges in activity, while the Top 10 list reveals the most played titles in your region over the past week. Giving players a transparent look at regional player counts and trending community hotspots makes it much easier to find active lobbies and jump into games with healthy player bases.
The timing of the system update coincides with the launch of Marvel's Wolverine, Sony's latest major console exclusive. Alongside the fresh firmware, even the older PlayStation 4 received a routine stability update to keep the legacy hardware ticking. While the patch notes include niche additions like a Bluetooth setting intended strictly for esports venues, the primary focus remains on refining the everyday user experience across Sony hardware.
