Aurora Arts announced Fae and Fauna, an open-world cozy RPG featuring creature collecting and pet creation, slated for a Steam early access release in early 2027.
Developer Aurora Arts has officially pulled back the curtain on Fae and Fauna, an open-world cozy RPG coming to Steam in early access during the first quarter of 2027. Originally detailed in a report by GameRant, the game blends open-world exploration with creature collecting, featuring cel-shaded visuals reminiscent of Breath of the Wild. Players will traverse the island of Saltwick, utilizing companions called Faeons that help with both open-world navigation and combat against hostile creatures known as Knytt.
The title leans heavily into the relaxed pacing that defines the modern cozy gaming landscape while adding traditional RPG elements. Alongside pet bonding that includes interacting with magical cats and dogs, players can build and decorate homes, craft, cook, and engage in NPC romance. Aurora Arts also plans to include a unique system allowing players to create custom pets through a mix of in-game elements, echoing the deep customization expected by today's survival and life-sim communities.
Following its initial early access launch on PC, the studio aims to keep the game in development for roughly two years before rolling out a 1.0 release that expands the narrative and adds biomes, fishing, and bug catching. While the team plans to explore console ports once the PC version fully matures, the early access period gives community feedback a direct line into how the final game takes shape.
For players who treat their game library as a social and relaxing escape, Fae and Fauna looks like a project worth adding to the wishlist. It captures the current appetite for hybrid genres that mix low-stress activities with deeper progression loops, giving us another expansive world to lose hours in alongside our creator communities.
