A new trailer for the live-action Masters of the Universe movie reveals our first look at Jared Leto as Skeletor, alongside a star-studded cast and high-octane action directed by Travis Knight ahead of its June 5 theatrical release.
Nostalgia is getting another high budget swing. Amazon MGM Studios just dropped the first full trailer for the live action Masters of the Universe movie, giving fans a proper look at Eternia on the big screen. Directed by Travis Knight, who previously helmed Bumblebee, the footage leans into massive action set pieces while balancing heavy comic book spectacle with a touch of levity. The trailer serves up everything long time fans could hope for, from He-Man and Battle Cat to Trap Jaw and a commanding look at Jared Leto taking on the role of Skeletor.
Leto steps into the iconic villainous role with a digital skull face, a muscular blue frame, and a distinctively evil British accent. The cast surrounding him features no shortage of star power. Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam and He-Man, joined by Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. The plot follows a classic setup where a grown Prince Adam returns to his home planet after spending decades away from his powerful sword, only to find he must unlock his past to save Eternia from Skeletor.
While the production values and creature designs look set to deliver a fun theatrical experience, internet sleuths are already hunting for Easter eggs and debating the finer details of the adaptation. The trailer has sparked plenty of conversation across social platforms and streaming communities about how well the 1980s toy line will translate for modern audiences. Masters of the Universe arrives in theaters on June 5, as originally reported by Polygon.
