New GTA 6 Preview Details Seamless Dual Protagonists and Reactive Open World Mechanics

A new preview of Grand Theft Auto 6 details seamless character switching between Jason and Lucia, deeper open-world immersion, and ongoing labor disputes at Rockstar.

As anticipation builds for the next major showcase, new details about Grand Theft Auto 6 have emerged from an unexpected feature in Dazed magazine. The preview offers a closer look at how players will control protagonists Jason and Lucia, confirming that you can play them separately or as an integrated couple. Thanks to seamless character switching, players can swap control on the fly during missions, such as moving from driving a getaway car to firing at pursuers, or managing in-game social media feeds while your partner takes the wheel. Beyond combat and heists, the game leans hard into shared activities like visiting the beach or riding jetskis together.

Rockstar is also pushing immersion further through a more reactive world and deeper morality systems that build on Red Dead Redemption 2. NPCs will now notice open-carry weapons and react accordingly, while returning mechanics like body weight management add another layer of grounded realism to character progression. Speaking with Dazed, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson explained that the team aimed to balance deep self-expression with the core identity of the characters after conducting extensive field research in Miami.

At the same time, behind the scenes friction persists as the studio faces allegations of union-busting following the dismissal of dozens of employees late last year. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain has pushed back against parent company Take-Two and argued that the layoffs target union activity, coinciding with the formation of the Rockstar Game Workers Union. With the release date locked in for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, players are weighing these major systemic gameplay upgrades against ongoing industry labor discussions.
