NetEase Reveals Release Date for Open World Action Game Ananta

NetEase has announced that its anime style open world game Ananta will launch on January 15, 2027, as a free to play title for PC, PS5, and mobile.

NetEase has officially locked in a January 15, 2027 release date for Ananta, the open world action game previously known during its development as Project Mugen. Shown off with a striking new trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live, the game leans hard into the anime open world style by combining frenetic combat, high speed traversal systems that borrow elements from Spider Man style web slinging, and a heavy dose of urban exploration. Players step into the shoes of a supernatural investigator called an Infinite Trigger, tasked with tracking down anomalies across two distinct cultural hubs.

The game world splits its focus between two major locations, namely the modern metropolis of Nova City and the distinctly Eastern inspired Lingyun City. Players can navigate these massive urban environments using a variety of vehicles including cars, motorcycles, bikes, and skateboards, alongside engaging in unconventional side activities like directing a children choir or playing amusement park mini games. Combat relies on assembling a four person party of playable characters known as Espers, allowing players to seamlessly swap between different fighters on the fly to chain abilities and take down major bosses.

As a free to play title launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices, Ananta will utilize gacha mechanics for unlocking its roster of playable characters, following a model popularized by games like Genshin Impact. Coming out shortly after the massive wave of current gen blockbusters, the game offers an intriguing alternative for players looking for a multi city open world sandbox experience without the traditional upfront cost of modern AAA releases, according to reporting by Game Rant.
