Neon Giant Is Reinventing the Cyberpunk Genre with No Law

Neon Giant's upcoming immersive sim No Law blends a sunlit Mediterranean cyberpunk setting with deep, reactive systems where player choices permanently alter the game world.
Following their work on the 2021 co-op shooter The Ascent, developer Neon Giant is returning with a new immersive sim that shakes up the traditionally grim aesthetic of the cyberpunk genre. Previewed at Gamescom, No Law takes place in the fictional Mediterranean city of Port Desire, replacing the usual neon-lit skyscrapers and perpetual night with sunlit plazas, vibrant green spaces, and a heavy dose of aggressive plant life that workers must clear away nightly. Studio representatives have described the visual and tonal blend simply as Studio Ghibli meets Judge Dredd, offering a refreshing twist on familiar dystopian tropes.
Beneath the sunny Riviera exterior lies a deeply reactive world built on intricate interlocking systems reminiscent of golden age immersive sims like Deus Ex and Dishonored. Players step into the boots of Grey Harker, an ex-military fixer navigating a city where every NPC has a designated home address and every street and building features real logistical naming conventions. Actions have immediate, lasting consequences in the game world. Killing a local bodega owner, or even accidentally blowing up their shop with a misplaced grenade during a firefight, will permanently shut down that business for the remainder of your playthrough.
Neon Giant is also shaking up standard progression loops by stripping away bonus experience points for stealth or specific combat feats, awarding XP strictly for objective completion to avoid favoring sneaky play over other tactical approaches. Gameplay variety shines through dynamic environmental interactions and emergent physics, where developer testing has already yielded unpredictable results like stray grenade blasts shattering apartment interiors in real time. Published by Krafton, No Law is currently slated to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
