Naughty Dog released a free PS5 background ahead of The Last of Us Day 2026, while teasing upcoming announcements and revealing major casting updates for HBO Season 3.
Naughty Dog is getting ready for The Last of Us Day 2026 by dropping a brand new, free animated background for the PlayStation 5 Welcome Hub. While the actual outbreak anniversary falls on September 26, the studio is holding off on major updates until Monday the 28th. Even so, players can jump onto their consoles right now to deck out their UI with artwork featuring both younger and older iterations of Ellie across the franchise.
Beyond the cosmetic touchup for the console dashboard, the studio has confirmed that Monday will bring a slate of new updates, including a brand partnership, digital surprises, and a dedicated No Return charity stream on Twitch. While a full confirmation for a potential Part 3 remains unannounced as development continues on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the upcoming showcase has plenty of community attention. IGN South Africa notes that fans are keeping a close eye on any hints regarding the future of Ellie's story.
In the meantime, HBO's television adaptation is building massive hype for its third season with some major casting announcements. Industry icon John Goodman is joining the cast as an entirely original character named Joey. They will be joined by Laura Bailey stepping into the role of Seraphite leader Elizabeth, alongside Ian Alexander returning to the universe in a yet unrevealed role following their standout performance as Lev in the second game.
