Reports indicate Naughty Dog is developing a new Uncharted game featuring Nathan Drake, slated to begin production after the studio finishes Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Reports indicate that Naughty Dog is expanding its development slate to bring back the Uncharted franchise. Following the completion of its upcoming sci-fi project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the studio will reportedly turn its attention to a new Uncharted title. Industry reporting from MP1st and VGC suggests that series protagonist Nathan Drake will appear in some capacity, though the exact nature of his role remains under wraps.
Creative duties for this new entry will fall to Shaun Escayg, who previously directed the acclaimed spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. This direction comes as a mild surprise to the community. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End provided a definitive conclusion for Drake in 2016, and studio leadership previously stated the team was finished with the franchise. Following the new Uncharted project, Naughty Dog reportedly plans to develop The Last of Us Part III.
Players should temper their expectations regarding a release date since Naughty Dog developments typically span several years. With Intergalactic currently heading toward a gameplay showcase next year, the next Uncharted adventure will likely not materialize until well into the next decade. Even so, the return of a cornerstone PlayStation franchise is major news for cross-platform players and long-time fans of cinematic action games.
Polygon originally reported these details, highlighting how major studios balance fresh intellectual property with legacy franchises that still command massive community interest. As the industry continues to evolve around live service models and massive single-player blockbusters, Naughty Dog remains focused on narrative-driven experiences that dominate streaming and social discussion.
