Moss Developer Polyarc Shuts Down After Twelve Years

Polyarc Games, the developer behind the acclaimed Moss series, has shut down after twelve years, adding to a wave of industry closures in 2026.

Polyarc Games, the acclaimed studio behind the beloved Moss virtual reality series, has announced it is shutting down operations after a twelve-year run. According to a farewell statement shared on LinkedIn by the Seattle-based team, the studio is closing its doors immediately, leaving behind a talented roster of twenty-nine developers spanning design, engineering, and art roles.

For many players, Polyarc will be remembered for defining what a dedicated virtual reality adventure could achieve. The studio launched the original Moss in 2018, introducing players to a charming mouse named Quill and proving that platforming and puzzle solving could thrive in headset environments. The sequel, Moss Book 2, followed in 2022 to similar praise, expanding the world before the studio experimented with tactical spin-offs and recently brought the franchise to non-VR platforms this past July.

This closure is another heavy blow in what has been a punishing period for the broader industry. Polyarc joins a growing list of notable studio shutdowns and massive workforce reductions across major publishers and independent developers alike throughout 2026. As the studio signs off, the immediate priority for the community is supporting the displaced developers as they look for new homes across the games space. As reported by IGN South Africa, the studio's parting message encouraged hiring managers to reach out to its former team members.
